Hearts
|
Hearts is a trick taking game in which the object is to avoid winning tricks containing hearts; the queen of spades is
even more to be avoided. The game first appeared at the end of the nineteenth century and is now popular in various
forms in many countries.
Hearts is most commonly played by 4 people. There are no formal partnerships, though there are times when players will
find it in their interest to help each other. A standard 52 card deck is used, with the cards in each suit ranking as
usual from ace down to two. There is no trump suit. Each heart is worth one penalty point and the queen of spades is
worth 13 penalty points. The other cards have no value.
The object is to avoid scoring points. The game is ended by someone reaching or going over 100 points, and the winner is
the player with the lowest score at this point.

Spades
|
Spades is a partnership bidding game similar to bridge. It's played in a clockwise
direction, most commonly with two teams of two players sitting opposite each other. The suit of spades is always the
highest value suit or trump, and cards are valued from highest (A) to lowest (2).
The play of a hand consists of thirteen tricks. The first card of the first trick is played by the player to the left
of the dealer. Successive tricks are started by the winner of the previous trick. Play for each trick continues around
to the left.
The game ends when any team has a score of five hundred or more after the scoring of a hand (including all over-trick penalties).
